Stimulus to Give 300,000 Illegal
Aliens Jobs
Americans lost over 600,000 jobs per month
since January 1st and the Senate passed an ill-advised stimulus bill to try to
fix the problem. Knowing how many Americans have
lost their jobs, Senate leaders did not give permission for a vote
on a Stimulus Bill amendment that would keep illegal foreign workers from getting jobs
created by taxpayer money. How many Americans have to lose
their jobs before this madness instigated by the likes of Pelosi,
Boxer, Feinstein, Menendez, and Reid stops?
The House-passed stimulus bill
contained language to bar employment of illegal immigrants in
stimulus funded projects, but the Senate deliberately took
it out. The Heritage Foundation has released an
estimate that the Senate
version of the stimulus bill will provide jobs
for 300,000 illegal aliens. This travesty could mostly be
eliminated by simply requiring all recipients of stimulus money
to use the E-Verify system like the House bill
did.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce,
while lobbying the Senate to exclude E-verify from the stimulus
package, ran articles distorting the truth about the best system the
government has ever produced. The articles said that E-verify
incorrectly identifies legal workers as illegal. This is an outright
lie. After millions of uses over the past twelve years, not
one case of this happening has ever been identified.
It has been illegal to hire illegal aliens since 1986 when an amnesty brought our illegal population close to zero,
but now, we have an estimated 7.7 million illegal foreign
workers in jobs. Obviously just saying that it's illegal doesn't
work and this valuable tool, paid for by taxpayer dollars, should be
used.
The Senate stimulus bill will fund over
$100 billion in new government construction projects with the goal
of providing additional jobs to unemployed Americans. The
government's own estimate is
that one out of every seven persons hired to work in
construction is an illegal alien. Government estimates indicate that each $1 billion spent on
construction will create around 19,500 construction jobs, each
lasting a year and this bill will create construction temporay
jobs for about 2.04 million workers. Thiis means that approximately
300,000 jobs will go to illegal workers if E-verify is not
used.
The Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Conference
of Catholic Bishops are lobbying the Senate to ensure that
businesses can use Stimulus money to hire illegal aliens.
Nearly every national Hispanic advocacy group is also lobbying the
Senate to ensure that illegal aliens have the same access to
Stimulus jobs as unemployed Hispanic American citizens.
T he Senate chose to keep
this important prevention measure out of the bill, but Americans can
still force its use.
Requiring every government and business to run
new hires through E-Verify is
absolutely necessary if Americans and legal immigrants are
to get the new jobs being created in the face of devasting losses in
our employment ranks.
