The
largest and most destructive tax bill in American history was passed
in the House of Representatives on June 26, 2009 by a vote of 219 to
212.
The American Clean Energy and Security Act is a tax on
energy that will, should the bill pass the Senate, result in
consumer price increases for anything that uses energy for its
production. The most obvious effects will be the increases in the
price of gasoline and home utility bills. Less obvious, but
cumulatively as expensive, will be price increases on food, clothes,
construction, and medicine. Anything that is produced or provided in
lighted, heated, or air-conditioned facilities or transported using
gasoline or diesel will be affected. The basis for this additional
form of taxation is speculation and theory about Global Warming as a
result of carbon increases caused by the burning of fossil fuels.
While a number of scientists support this theory, thirteen times as
many scientists say that man-caused global warming does not exist and the theory is not supported by a
growing number of environmental groups.
Even though phone calls received by legislators were
90% against the bill, legislators once again ignored their
constituents and the vote was close, but the bill did not have to
pass except for an abandonment of principles by the Republicans
listed below who voted for the bill.
Democrats who voted against the bill are listed
below and deserve credit for standing for their country and not
caving to arm-twisting and threats by their party members and their
President.
Since your government borrows or prints any amount of
money that it decides to spend, it is hard to determine the purpose
of this bill other than the government may just want you to have
less. Cap and trade
energy taxes have existed in socialist countries along with
countries like England and Canada for years and they have not served
to reduce the use of fossil fuels or the reduction of green house
gases. They have only served to reduce standards of living and to
make it harder for populations to survive.
No
matter if you are Republican or Democrat, unless the Senate shows
some wisdom and constraint, you will soon suffer as a result of this
bill’s passage. Remember these people at election time and let them
know now how disappointed you are that they voted for this bill or
how pleased you are that they voted against it and listen to your
President calling on the Senate to pass this.
