Articles: Government - E-Verify Voting

On July 8, 2009, after having been tabled several times, the majority of the Senate agreed to allow a vote on E-Verify. E-Verify is a computer program that allows employers to quickly check the citizenship status of prospective employees. The Senate had previously stripped language from the stimulus bill requiring E-Verify be used for jobs created by stimulus money. Most of the Senate agreed that illegal aliens should not get jobs created with American tax dollars.

The vote was 44-53 meaning that almost half of the U.S. Senate still thinks that it’s OK to use your tax dollars to employ illegal aliens. The following Senators think that this practice is OK and planned to use E-Verify as a bargaining chip when the Senate vote on whether or not to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in the U.S. later in the year.

In legislation that was passed shortly after the E-Verify vote, the Senate passed measures that would allow employers to check the eligibility of all employees and not just new hire and also require that the Social Security Administration be required to notify employers when names and social security numbers don't match indicating a stolen number.

Make sure that you thank the Senators who voted to protect American jobs from theft by illegal aliens with a letter or email and let those who refused to know about your disappointment and remember them when it comes time to decide whether or not they keep their jobs. We pay them over $170,000 per year with a complete set of medical benefits plus expenses and the very least that we should expect them to do is protect our livelyhoods and our tax dollars from theft.

A number of states are also requiring the use of E-Verify at various stages and you can find out the status of your state from this map so that you know whether your state values your citizenship or not and take appropriate action. You can also learn more about the battle against illegal and excessive legal immigration here.
