Category: Government

No matter how many people you talk to, you never find anyone who doesn't think that the government is doing everything right. The criticsm ranges from mild displeasure to outrage in times of disaster. The irony is that most people will also say that a government is neccesary for the public good. Mankind is instinctively opposed to the idea of being governed but they will accept being governed as long as they are prosperous and government impositions on their personal lives are not too blatant. By accepting government, people are responsible for their governments and, often, they have to be restructured.

Our country is not a democracy. It is a Constitutional Republic. In a democracy, the majority rules and dictates to the minority. The minority only has the rights that the majority wants to give it. Our founding fathers thought that democracy was a terrible idea. In a Republic, the majority rules, but the minority has inalienable rights that cannot be taken from them and they are provided with weapons, like freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the right to assemble, that allow them to fight for their rights and equality. The Civil Rights movement in the sixties was an example of this in action.

Our Constitution also allows for regulation at the state level. It does not allow the federal government to regulate. The feds are only supposed to protect our rights and us and prevent the regulations from becoming oppressive. When the feds got into the regulation business, they became susceptible to special interest groups who were then allowed to focus their energy and money. The people in government are not experts on industry. They are lawyers, doctors, teachers, and some are ex-housewives. Their lack of industry knowledge allows them to be manipulated causing them to support the military industrial complex, banking, foreign oil and other special interests.

Prior to getting into the regulation business, about 160 years ago, the country was prosperous and became rapidly successful, overtaking countries that are thousands of years older, precisely because there was no regulation at the federal level. Nothing prevented states or people from focusing on their favorite industry or area of expertise. Then regulations, around the time of Abraham Lincoln, began to spread like a slow moving virus until the extent of the infection became readily apparent in the disasters we are now facing. The cure is not more regulations, like they are injecting, but the opposite. We have seen this in the Soviet Union and other Eastern Block and Latin American countries.

The wealth from the largest consumer market in the world is being stripped from it. When this happens, the world will starve. It is a confusing as to why other countries would be envious and resentful as they sell their products to the American population. If the populations of those countries are not benefiting, it is not because we have not been buying. It is because of their own regulated governments and economies.

Instead of bringing the rest of the world up, the U.S. is now allowing its self to be dragged down. Perhaps we will all be more happy and peaceful when we are all equally poor and there is no longer an example of the way to make things better.
