Articles: Government - Letter from a Senator

About 2 or 3 years ago, I received a reply to an email that I sent to a senior Democratic Senator that was so astounding that it has been etched in my brain and I don’t spend more than a few days without it being brought back into my mind. I was so appalled that I did not answer it and I can’t remember what my email was exactly about, but it had to do with something that Congress has done that was blatantly in violation of our individual rights as guaranteed by the Constitution. I no longer have the email so, I can’t prove that I got it and I won’t mention whom it was from for that reason and you can believe me or not.  I don’t even remember the rest of the email because the opening sentence caused my mind to blank out the rest, drive all of my blood to my head, and leave me with a sick, empty feeling in my stomach.

“I am well aware of the need to balance the rights of the people against the needs of the government.”

Instead of fading from memory, these words have become more prominent in my thought as the days, weeks, and months have passed and I find myself pondering their true meaning more often and how much they represent how far our government has strayed. The first thing that comes to mind is that this woman thinks that she is a ruler. She is not representing the people as her office mandates, but, in her mind at least, she is ruling over them.

The second thing that springs out is that she does not have a clue as to what the government is supposed to be doing or what it is supposed to be. If she ever read the words, “For the people, by the people”, they have been obliterated from her memory. If she has ever read the Constitution, she did not understand it and lives in denial that it exists. She does not accept the Constitutional idea that the federal government’s primary purpose is to protects our rights and property. She does not know that she is suppose do keep the federal government in check, but believes that it exists separate from the people and is there to run the country. She does not even realize that the country is the people.

The next thing that comes to mind is that she does not even know what her job is. She is supposed to represent the interests of her sovereign state at the federal level, but, instead, she thinks that she is being sent to Washington D.C. to help the federal government rule the country when the federal government is not supposed to rule the country. Since the Constitution does not completely distinguish between the powers of the state and the power of the people, Congress was established to represent the sovereign citizens’ interests and the Senate was established to represent the interests of the sovereign states. Washington is a place where these public servants can meet to work out the differences between the states and develop ways to help each other prosper. Neither of these bodies was established to help the President rule the country. The country consists of sovereign states and sovereign citizens who are supposed to rule themselves.

God help us. This woman is still in office and it looks like that is where she will remain until she decides to leave. It is rumored that she might run for Governor in her state that has already been brought to the brink of insolvency largely as a result of her lack of representation. Not much more harm can be done there and it would be better for the country as a whole to remove her from the federal level. We are willing to make the sacrifice.

Then I think about the other public servants representing other states and most of them don’t appear to be any different than this one. It is time that the entire country puts people in office at the federal level that understand what their job is.
