If you believe in free speech only as it applies to you and
what you want to say, what you fail to realize is that the free
speech of others is more valuable to you than your own free speech.
If you allow others to speak and listen to what they have to
say, once in a while you will realize that you are wrong. Once
you realize that you are wrong, your life will become
better.
If you believe in free speech only as it applies to you and
what you want to say, then once you have power, you will be less
inclined to respect the right of free speech in others. This will
lead to your own moral decay and demise because you will fail to
realize that improvements to society, in all areas, and advancements
in knowledge, have only occurred when people thought differently
than the status quo and were allowed to express their
views.
This tendency in humans, as they have gained power as a
result of their free speech, is clearly visible in our society
today. Any white person who criticizes a minority group is called a
racist. Any non-Jew who criticizes a Jew or Israel is labeled
anti-Semitic. Any man who questions a woman’s
role or capabilities is called a chauvinist. Whites support this
ostracization process because they don’t want to be called
names. As a result of not listening to criticism, entire groups
of people are prevented from advancing.
This limiting process can also be seen in the scientific
community. A Catholic Priest first suggested the Big Bang Theory
almost 100 years ago. Scientists have since spent most of their time
trying to prove the theory and have now labeled it as fact and many
believe that it is proof that there is no god. The theory is still
not proven and many scientists don’t even know that a Catholic
priest first suggested it making it most unlikely to be proof of
god’s nonexistence.
Anyone who dares to suggest that the theory is wrong is
labeled illiterate and no new theories have been developed. The same
process has developed around the Theory of Evolution, which is now
being taught in our schools as fact while creationism is banned.
Science now has the power and prefers to toil trying to prove
unproven known theories and not entertain any other ideas. Rather
than being ostracized, the rest of the world leaves them alone. No
new theories have been developed for 100 years. A reasonable person
might suspect that, after trying to prove something for 100 years
and not being able to, it might be wrong. The thing that is not
being realized is that if new theories were allowed, even if they
were wrong, proving them wrong might lead to more proof for the old
theories. Things would get better.
The interesting thing is that Darwin and Marx were close
friends. Darwin dedicated one of his books to Marx. Hitler used both
of their writings in the construction of his Nazi regime. With the
Communist manifesto and the Theory of Evolution, the government ends
up being the ultimate moral authority.
Now that Obama has power, arguably as a result of free
speech, anyone who disagrees with him is called a racist, extremist,
radical conservative, right wing nut job, fascist, traitor,
un-American, and the cause of everything gone wrong in our political
process. This also occurred during the Bush administration. As a
result, both leaders have been allowed to blatantly ignore the
Constitution. Not one Obama or Bush supporter will entertain the
idea that their leader might do something wrong. Things have
continued to grow worse from one administration to the next as the
supporters of the existing administration have refused to
accept criticism and believe that something could
be wrong.
Both liberals and conservatives have been deaf to the speech
of the other party and the country has continued to suffer while
many of the same programs and legislation have been implemented
under the guise of a new government. The rejection of opposing
points of view has become a destructive childishness as the
opponents are only focussed on winning skirmishes where the only
loser is the country.
Perhaps speaking on legislators' current level will reach
them. Sticks and stones will break your bones, but words will never
hurt you. They only make you better.
